The tenth and final round of the EMX125 European Championship took the Fantic Factory Racing EMX team to Afyonkarahisar in Turkey. At the season’s final Grand Prix, Bertram Thorius, undoubtedly one of the season’s breakthrough riders with one race win and three podium finishes, once again came close to a top-three finish.
Fourth in Race 1, the 16-year-old Danish talent went all out in the second race, closing in on the rider in third place in the closing stages. A couple of too many mistakes caused him to lose ground in the final two laps, and he crossed the line in fifth place. He missed out on the podium by just three points and had to settle for sixth place in the day’s standings. In the championship standings, however, he has consolidated an excellent fourth place.
The results were a positive one for Fantic: Gennaro Utech finished sixth overall on the second XX 125. Following his first career podium, achieved at the penultimate round of the season in Sweden, he finished seventh overall in Turkey, with a seventh and an eighth place in the heats, partly due to a crash in the first heat.
Bertram Thorius:
“Fourth place in Race 1 was a good result, thanks to a nice, consistent pace. Of course, without that mistake in the closing stages I could have done even better, but there’s no point in dwelling on ‘what ifs’… In the second heat I found a good rhythm, but once again I made a couple of mistakes towards the end, finishing fifth in the heat and sixth overall. We were a bit unlucky, with the scores very close, but that’s part of the game. All in all, I’m very happy with my season. Fourth in the championship, with three podium finishes and one race win, some great races and, above all, a wealth of experience. A huge thank you to my whole team, to Fantic, to my family, to my coach and to my sponsors: without all this support, it wouldn’t have been possible. A heartfelt thank you to everyone!”
Gennaro Utech:
“We achieved a great result with the podium finish in Sweden, which was brilliant, and we secured a solid sixth place in the championship. I’m quite happy with that, although we could certainly have done a bit better. I struggled a bit at the start, but once I found my rhythm, the results started to come. La decima ed ultima tappa del Campionato Europeo EMX125 ha portato il team Fantic Factory Racing EMX fino ad Afyonkarahisar in Turchia. All’ultimo GP stagionale, Bertram Thorius, sicuramente tra le rivelazioni della stagione con una vittoria di manche e tre podi, è ancora una volta andato vicino alla top 3.
Quarto in gara 1, il 16enne talento danese ha tentato il tutto per tutto nella seconda manche, avvicinandosi al terzo classificato nel finale di gara. Un paio di errori di troppo gli hanno fatto perdere terreno negli ultimi due giri e ha tagliato il traguardo in quinta posizione. Il podio gli è sfuggito per soli tre punti e nella classifica di giornata si è dovuto accontentare del sesto posto. Nella classifica di campionato ha comunque confermato un ottimo quarto posto.
Una classifica che sorride a Fantic: Gennaro Utech ha infatti piazzato la seconda XX 125 al sesto posto finale. Dopo il suo primo podio in carriera, ottenuto alla penultima tappa stagionale in Svezia, in Turchia ha chiuso al settimo posto assoluto, con un settimo e un ottavo posto di manche, complice anche una caduta nella prima manche.
Bertram Thorius:
“Il quarto posto in gara 1 è stato un buon risultato, grazie a un passo bello costante. Certo, senza l’errore nel finale avrei potuto fare ancora meglio, ma con i se e con i ma non si va da nessuna parte… Nella seconda manche ho trovato un bel ritmo, ma ancora una volta ho fatto un paio di errori nel finale, finendo quinto di manche e sesto assoluto. Siamo stati un po’ sfortunati, con i punteggi molto vicini, ma fa parte del gioco. Tutto sommato, sono molto contento della mia stagione. Quarto in campionato, con tre podi e una vittoria di manche, delle belle gare e soprattutto un bel bagaglio di esperienza. Un grande grazie a tutto il mio team, a Fantic, alla mia famiglia, al mio allenatore e ai miei sponsor: senza tutto questo supporto non sarebbe stato possibile. Grazie di cuore a tutti!”

“Abbiamo raggiunto un obiettivo con il podio in Svezia che è stato molto bello e abbiamo portato a casa un buon sesto posto di campionato. Sono abbastanza contento di questo, anche se si poteva sicuramente fare un po’ meglio. All’inizio ho fatto un po’ fatica, poi una volta trovato la quadra i risultati sono arrivati.
