After securing his second EMX125 podium in Portugal, Bertram Thorius arrived in the Czech Republic as one of the medal contenders. Gennaro Utech, however, was unable to wear the Maglia Azzurra as he needs to rest his shoulder, which he injured in a crash at Águeda last weekend.
At Jinín, Thorius made his mark straight away on his Fantic XX 125 fitted with a racing kit. He set the fastest time in free practice, before confirming his excellent form with first place in his qualifying group.
Starting second on the grid, the 15-year-old Danish rider had everything it took to challenge for the top positions, but unfortunately two crashes in Race 1 complicated matters and he had to settle for tenth place in that race. He bounced back in Race 2, crossing the line in third place, but it wasn’t enough to secure a place on the Junior World Championship podium. Sixth place overall is a bit of a let-down, but with the pace he showed throughout the weekend, Thorius has confirmed his status as one of the most promising talents in the 125 class.

“The weekend got off to a good start, with an excellent Saturday and a good start in Race 1. But then I crashed, which was a real blow. I lost a lot of ground, partly because I slipped out a second time and the bike was damaged in the crash. So I had to settle for tenth place in that race. In Race 2, I got off to another good start and managed to put together a strong race,
Bertram Thorius Al Mondiale Junior in Repubblica Ceca
Dopo aver conquistato il suo secondo podio EMX125 in Portogallo, Bertram Thorius è arrivato in Repubblica Ceca come uno dei contendenti alle medaglie. Gennaro Utech invece non ha potuto vestire la Maglia Azzurra perché deve far riposare la spalla infortunata nella caduta di Águeda dello scorso weekend.
A Jinín, Thorius si è messo in evidenza fin da subito in sella alla sua Fantic XX 125 con kit racing. Ha fatto segnare il miglior tempo nelle prove libere, prima di confermare il suo ottimo stato di forma con il primo posto nel suo gruppo di prove cronometrate.
Secondo al cancelletto di partenza, il 15enne pilota danese aveva tutte le carte in regola per giocarsi le posizioni di vertice, ma purtroppo due cadute in gara 1 hanno complicato le cose e si è dovuto accontentare del decimo posto di manche. Si è rifatto in gara 2, tagliando il traguardo in terza posizione, ma non è bastato per salire sul podio del Mondiale Junior. Il sesto posto assoluto gli sta stretto, ma con la velocità dimostrata nel corso del weekend, Thorius si è confermato tra i talenti più promettenti della 125.

“Il weekend è iniziato bene, con un ottimo sabato e una buona partenza in gara 1. Poi però sono caduto e non ci voleva. Ho perso parecchio anche perché sono scivolato una seconda volta e la moto è stata danneggiata nella caduta. Così mi sono dovuto accontentare del decimo posto di manche. In gara 2 sono partito ancora una volta bene e sono riuscito a mettere insieme una bella manche, tagliando il traguardo in terza posizione. Tutto sommato, è stato un weekend con alti e bassi, ma non mi posso certo lamentare di un sesto posto al Mondiale Junior. Dobbiamo semplicemente continuare a lavorare, imparare dagli errori e cercare di migliorare gara dopo gara.”
