The 17-year-old Sicilian talent Gennaro Utech is the 2026 Rookies Cup Champion. Having returned from the shoulder injury he sustained at the Portuguese Grand Prix just two weeks ago, two second-place finishes in the heats at 04 Park in Faenza were enough for him to retain his lead in the standings.
For the Fantic Factory Racing EMX team, this is their second victory in this championship dedicated to promising young 125cc riders, following the title won by Simone Mancini in the 2024 season. These two successes demonstrate the high level of performance achieved by the Fantic XX 125 with the Racing kit.
Arriving in Faenza level on points with Utech and with the same ambitions of challenging for the top of the standings, Bertram Thorius crossed the finish line in Race 1 in third place, behind his team-mate. The title race was still wide open, but following a collision during the second race, the Danish rider was forced to retire. An unfortunate outcome that prevented him from securing a podium finish on the day or in the final championship standings.
The good news is that he escaped the crash uninjured and will be ready to return to action next weekend at the British Grand Prix, the third-last round of the EMX125 European Championship, where Thorius currently sits in fourth place.

“I’m really pleased to have clinched the Rookies Cup title with a great win at Arco and two second-place finishes here in Faenza. My rivals were very fast, and I’m not yet back to 100 per cent fitness, as I’m still recovering from a shoulder injury. In the end, we managed to take the title home, so that’s fine. Il 17enne talento siciliano Gennaro Utech è il Campione della Rookies Cup 2026. Rientrato dopo l’infortunio alla spalla subito al GP del Portogallo appena due settimane fa, al 04 Park di Faenza gli sono bastati due secondi posti di manche per confermarsi in testa alla classifica.
Per il team Fantic Factory Racing EMX si tratta della seconda affermazione in questo trofeo dedicato alle giovani promesse della 125, dopo il titolo conquistato da Simone Mancini nella stagione 2024. Due successi che testimoniano l’elevato livello prestazionale raggiunto dallaFantic XX 125 con kit Racing.
Arrivato a Faenza con lo stesso punteggio di Utech e le stesse ambizioni di puntare alla testa della classifica, Bertram Thorius ha tagliato il traguardo di gara 1 in terza posizione, alle spalle del suo compagno di squadra. La lotta per il titolo era ancora aperta, ma dopo un contatto di gara nella seconda manche, il pilota danese è stato costretto al ritiro. Un epilogo sfortunato che non gli ha permesso di salire sul podio di giornata o della classifica finale di campionato.
La buona notizia è che nella caduta non ha riportato lesioni e sarà pronto a tornare in gara il prossimo fine settimana al GP d’Inghilterra, terzultima tappa per l’Europeo EMX125, dove Thorius occupa attualmente la quarta posizione.
