The weekend in Sweden got off to the best possible start with a fantastic Fantic one-two in qualifying: Bertram Thorius secured his first pole position ahead of teammate Gennaro Utech.
While Thorius had some bad luck at the start of Race 1, finding himself more than halfway down the field after a collision at the second turn, Utech immediately joined the battle for the top 5. The 17-year-old Sicilian talent demonstrated excellent pace, allowing him to hold third place for most of the race. In the closing stages, he was closing in on the rider in second place, ready to attempt a pass, but a crash with two laps to go caused him to lose ground, and he crossed the finish line in fourth place. Thorius finished seventh after mounting a comeback.
Sunday’s Race 2 saw both Fantic XX 125s with racing kits start in the top five positions. Utech set out determined to claim his first career podium and gave it his all until the checkered flag, securing third place on the very last lap. Thanks to this result, Gennaro Utech climbed onto the third step of the podium, tied on points with the runner-up.
It took Thorius a couple of laps to find the right rhythm, but then he drove a solid race, finishing his weekend in fifth place both in the race and in the overall standings. Ahead of the final round of the European season, scheduled for September 5 and 6 in Turkey, the Danish driver sits in fourth place in the championship standings, while Utech is sixth and still in the running for a top-5 finish.
Gennaro Utech:
“I’m struggling to find the right words to describe how I feel. I’m overjoyed about this podium finish that’s finally come through. It wasn’t easy—my pace was good, but in Race 1 I crashed with two laps to go. I made up for it in Race 2, moving into third place on the very last lap. Primo podio in EMX125 per Gennaro Utech al GP di Svezia
Il weekend in terra svedese è iniziato nel migliore dei modi con una bellissima doppietta Fantic in qualifica: Bertram Thorius ha firmato la sua prima pole position davanti al compagno di squadra Gennaro Utech.
Mentre Thorius è stato sfortunato al via di gara 1, ritrovandosi oltre metà gruppo dopo un contatto alla seconda curva, Utech si è inserito fin da subito nella lotta per la top 5. Il 17enne talento siciliano ha dimostrato un ottimo passo che gli ha permesso di occupare la terza piazza per gran parte della manche. Nel finale si stava avvicinando al pilota in seconda posizione, pronto a tentare il sorpasso, ma una scivolata a due giri dalla fine gli ha fatto perdere terreno e ha tagliato il traguardo in quarta posizione. Thorius ha chiuso settimo in rimonta.
Gara 2 della domenica ha visto scattare entrambe le Fantic XX 125 con kit racing nelle prime cinque posizioni. Utech è partito deciso a prendersi il primo podio in carriera e ha dato il massimo fino alla bandiera a scacchi, guadagnando la terza posizione proprio all’ultimo giro. Grazie a questo risultato, Gennaro Utech è salito sul terzo gradino del podio, a pari punti con il secondo classificato.
Thorius ci ha messo un paio di giri a trovare il ritmo giusto, poi ha corso una manche solida, chiudendo il suo weekend al quinto posto sia di manche che nella classifica assoluta. Prima della tappa conclusiva della stagione europea, in programma il 5 e 6 settembre in Turchia, il pilota danese occupa il quarto posto nella classifica di campionato, mentre Utech è sesto e sempre in lotta per la top 5.

“Faccio fatica a trovare le parole giuste per descrivere l’emozione. Sono felicissimo per questo podio che è finalmente arrivato. Non è stato facile, il mio passo era buono ma in gara 1 sono scivolato a due giri dalla fine. Mi sono rifatto in gara 2, passando in terza posizione proprio all’ultimo giro.
