It was a mixed weekend for the Fantic Factory Racing EMX team: the Trentino GP got off to a promising start, with two Fantic XX 125s finishing in the top 3 of their group in qualifying. In Race 1, Bertram Thorius and Gennaro Utech also held their own. Thorius got off to a strong start and held second place for the first part of the race, before crossing the finish line in fourth position. His teammate Utech also delivered a solid performance, finishing sixth after a clean, error-free race…
With two top-6 finishes in Race 1, the Fantic riders were ready to battle for the podium in Sunday’s Race 2. That goal slipped away, however, right from the first corner, when Thorius crashed and Utech found himself in the middle of the pack. Within a few laps, the Sicilian rider had fought his way back up to seventh place. A mistake temporarily knocked him out of the top 10, but by pushing hard all the way to the checkered flag, he managed to reclaim eighth place, which earned him seventh place overall: his best result of the season and, above all, an important sign of a comeback after a few more challenging races.
The very young Thorius, on the other hand, paid the price for his eagerness to make up ground with two more crashes, failing to finish higher than 29th. In the overall standings, however, he narrowly missed the top 10, finishing 11th. He remains in fourth place in the championship standings, thanks to a first half of the season that has exceeded all expectations for the 15-year-old Danish talent, with a race win and his first-ever EMX125 podium finish in Spain. Now there is a four-week break before he returns to racing at the next GP, scheduled for May 23 and 24 in France.
Gennaro Utech:
“The weekend went pretty well: I topped my group in qualifying and finished sixth in Race 1, despite a less-than-perfect start, whilst in Race 2 I crashed when I was in seventh place – a shame, because I could have fought my way back up and tried to get closer to the podium. I finished eighth and seventh on the day; it’s definitely a step in the right direction. Let’s take all the positives we’ve seen and keep working hard ahead of France.”
Bertram Thorius:
“A good Saturday and a much more difficult Sunday: in Race 1 I got off to a good start; I couldn’t keep up with the leaders but still finished fourth. In Race 2 I crashed at the start, rejoined the race at the back of the pack and then crashed again… It didn’t go as I’d hoped, but that’s part and parcel of sport. We’ll keep working hard ahead of the French Grand Prix. I’m still fourth in the championship, so I can’t help but be pleased with how the season has started. We need to keep this up and try to be consistent: that’s the key.”

Weekend a due facce per il team Fantic Factory Racing EMX: il GP del Trentino è partito in modo promettente, con due Fantic XX 125 nella top 3 di gruppo nelle cronometrate. Anche in gara 1, Bertram Thorius e Gennaro Utech si sono difesi bene. Thorius è scattato forte e ha occupato la seconda piazza per la prima parte della manche, prima di tagliare il traguardo in quarta posizione. Prestazione solida anche per il suo compagno di squadra Utech, sesto al termine di una manche pulita e senza errori.
Con la doppia top 6 di gara 1, gli alfieri Fantic erano pronti a giocarsi il podio in gara 2 della domenica. Obiettivo che si è allontanato fin dalla prima curva però, quando Thorius è caduto e Utech si è ritrovato a metà gruppo. In pochi giri, il pilota siciliano è risalito in settima posizione. Un errore lo ha estromesso momentaneamente dalla top 10, ma spingendo fino alla bandiera a scacchi è riuscito a riprendersi l’ottavo posto, che gli è valso il settimo posto assoluto: il suo miglior risultato stagionale e soprattutto un segnale importante di ripresa dopo qualche tappa più complicata.
Il giovanissimo Thorius invece ha pagato la foga di voler recuperare con altre due cadute, non riuscendo ad andare oltre la 29° posizione. Nella classifica assoluta ha comunque sfiorato la top 10, chiudendo undicesimo. Nella classifica di campionato continua a occupare la quarta piazza, merito di una prima parte di stagione oltre ogni aspettativa per il 15enne talento danese, con una vittoria di manche e il primo podio EMX125 in carriera conquistato in Spagna. Ora una pausa di quattro settimane prima di tornare in gara al prossimo GP in programma in Francia il 23 e 24 maggio.
Gennaro Utech:
“Il weekend è andato abbastanza bene: primo di gruppo in qualifica e sesto in gara 1, nonostante una partenza non perfetta, mentre in gara 2 sono scivolato quando ero settimo – peccato, perché potevo rimontare e provare ad avvicinarmi al podio. Ho chiuso ottavo e settimo di giornata, è sicuramente un passo nella giusta direzione. Prendiamo tutto quello di positivo che abbiamo visto e continuiamo a lavorare in vista della Francia.”
Bertram Thorius:
“Un buon sabato e una domenica molto più complicata: in gara 1 sono partito bene, non sono riuscito a stare con i primi ma ho comunque chiuso quarto. In gara 2 sono caduto in partenza, sono ripartito in fondo al gruppo e poi sono caduto di nuovo… Non è andata come avrei voluto, ma fa parte dello sport. Continuiamo a lavorare in vista della Francia. Sono sempre quarto in campionato, quindi non posso che essere contento di questo inizio di stagione. Dobbiamo continuare così e cercare di essere costanti: è questa la chiave.”
