Bertram Thorius narrowly missed the podium in the Riola Sardo sand, one of the most challenging races on the European and world calendar. Fifth in race one after a remarkable comeback following a crash at the start, and seventh in the second heat, despite a mid-race crash, the 15-year-old Danish talent finished fourth overall, just three points shy of third place. Thorius also climbed to fourth in the championship standings, proving that in his first year aboard the Fantic XX 125, he’s no longer a surprise, but a sure thing.
His teammate Gennaro Utech also showed no shortage of speed, once again finishing in the top three of his timed qualifying group. A few too many mistakes, however, prevented him from realizing his excellent potential in the race. Finishing 13th and 16th in the heats, Utech finished the Sardinia GP in 17th place overall. He’ll have the chance to make up for it in a week’s time, with another home round for Fantic scheduled for Arco di Trento.
Bertram Thorius:
“It was a good weekend. In race 1, I climbed up to fifth place after a crash at the start, with a good pace. In race 2, I found myself in the middle of the pack, recovering, but then I crashed and lost ground. I think the key is to never give up, especially in such challenging conditions, and I tried to push until the end. I crossed the finish line in seventh place, another solid result that allowed me to finish the GP in fourth place. I’m also fourth in the championship standings, so I’m very happy – and super motivated for Arco di Trento, another home GP for the team and Fantic.”
Gennaro Utech:
“After finishing third in qualifying, I wasn’t able to drive as I should in the race. It’s disappointing, but we’re not giving up. Luckily, we have another Italian round ahead of us. We’ll try to bounce back at Arco di Trento, because the potential is there, and we’ll keep working.“

Bertram Thorius ha sfiorato il podio nella sabbia di Riola Sardo, una delle prove più impegnative di tutto il calendario europeo e mondiale. Quinto in gara 1 dopo una grandissima rimonta in seguito a una caduta al via e settimo nella seconda manche, nonostante una scivolata a metà gara, il 15enne talento danese ha chiuso quarto assoluto, a soli tre punti dal terzo gradino del podio. Anche nella classifica di campionato, Thorius sale al quarto posto, dimostrando che al suo primo anno in sella alla Fantic XX 125 non è più una sorpresa, ma ormai una certezza.
La velocità non manca nemmeno al suo compagno di squadra Gennaro Utech, ancora una volta nella top 3 del suo gruppo di prove cronometrate. Qualche errore di troppo, però, non gli permette di concretizzare l’ottimo potenziale in gara. 13° e 16° di manche, Utech ha chiuso il GP della Sardegna al 17° posto assoluto. Avrà modo di rifarsi già tra una settimana, con un’altra tappa di casa per Fantic in programma ad Arco di Trento.

“È stato un buon weekend. In gara 1 sono risalito fino alla quinta posizione dopo una caduta in partenza, con un bel ritmo. In gara 2 mi sono ritrovato a metà gruppo, stavo recuperando ma poi sono scivolato e ho perso terreno. Penso che la chiave sia quella di non mollare mai, soprattutto in condizioni così impegnative, e ho cercato di spingere fino alla fine. Ho tagliato il traguardo in settima piazza, un altro risultato solido che mi ha permesso di chiudere il GP in quarta posizione. Sono quarto anche nella classifica di campionato, quindi sono molto contento – e super motivato per Arco di Trento, un altro GP di casa per il team e Fantic.”
Gennaro Utech:
“Dopo il terzo tempo nelle qualifiche, in gara non sono riuscito a guidare come saprei fare. Dispiace, ma non molliamo. Per fortuna abbiamo subito un’altra tappa italiana che ci aspetta. Ad Arco di Trento proviamo a rifarci, perché il potenziale c’è e continuiamo a lavorare.”
